Huntingburg VFW Post 2366 will hold Memorial Day Services on Monday, May 30, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery at 8:30 a.m, Fairmount Cemetery at 9 a.m, Mayo Cemetery in Duff at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. members will meet at Veterans Monument Park on 14th St. in Huntingburg near the event center for services. All times are approximate!

The Habitat for Humanity of Dubois County is excited to host our 19th Home Dedication ceremony this Saturday, May 14th at 3:00 p.m. The address is 205 N Walnut St, Huntingburg, IN 47542. We welcome you to join our home dedication ceremony as this is open to the public.

The Dubois County Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will meet on Tuesday, May 17 in Cherry Meeting Room A of the Jasper Public Library, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The program will focus on the Indiana DAR Conference of May 13-15. Also on the agenda will be the installation of officers for the 2022-2024 term, committee reports of chapter service projects and activities, and discussion of old and new business.

The Sisters of St. Benedict are offering a retreat entitled “Seek God in Silence,” a time to renew and revitalize body, mind and spirit with rest, silence, and prayer. Under the direction of Sister Betty Drewes, this quiet retreat will open and close with a prayer service. There will be opportunities for personal reflection, reading, walking and praying daily with the Benedictine community. All meals will be in silence with reflective music.

“Seek God in Silence” will take place from 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23 until 9 a.m. on Friday, May 27 at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand (all times are EST). Overnight accommodations will be provided in the Benedictine Hospitality Center at the monastery. The cost is $350 for the week, which includes lodging and meals. St. John’s Lutheran Church, located ½ mile west of New Boston, is having their annual Chicken Supper on Saturday June 11th. This year will be CARRY-OUT ONLY! Pick-up is from 3:00-5:00 CDT. Please call 812-489-3969 to pre-order.

Chicken dinners are $12.00 and include: ½ grilled chicken, American or German potato salad, green beans, and slaw. Homemade pies are $10.00 each; choose from pecan, apple, cherry, coconut cream, or rhubarb.

You may also purchase baked goods, potato salads, slaw, and more from the Country Store when you pick up.

Women of the Church, a Catholic leadership forum, will launch its first regional gathering June 17-19, 2022, at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, St. Meinrad, IN.

Women of all ages will gather to nurture their leadership roles wherever they are on their journey. Participants will be invited to listen and learn from leaders in the Church and to bring their own experiences into conversation with others.

Registration is now open at www.womenofthechurch.org and will be capped at 50 participants. Deadline to register is June 1. The fee is $250, which includes room and meals, or $100 for commuters.

Plenary sessions will include a recorded video conversation with Kerry Alys Robinson and an in-person presentation by Dr. Kimberly Baker.

Patoka Lake will host its annual Kids Fishing Derby on June 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Osborn Ramp off State Road 145.

The event is for children 12 years old and younger, who must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes and plaques will be awarded. Fishing starts at 9 a.m., and the awards ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Anglers should bring fishing poles, tackle, and bait.

Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.

The pilgrimages begin with an opening hymn and a short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The service ends with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a hymn. Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:

May 15: Fr. Thomas Gricoski, OSB, on “Mary, Seat of Wisdom”

May 22: Fr. Lorenzo Penalosa, OSB, on “Mary, Salus Populi Romani (Health of the Roman People)”

May 29: Br. Michael Reyes, OSB, on “Holy Mary, Pray for Us.”

Services begin at 2 p.m. Central Time. The public is invited. Monte Cassino Shrine is located one mile east of the Archabbey on State Highway 62 in St. Meinrad, IN.
